Shares of CMS Info Systems to start trading in Mumbai after IPO. CMS Info Systems will make its debut today, the last day of the calendar year, bringing the domestic share market to a close for 2021. 

The company’s shares have lost speed on the grey market after lacklustre trading sessions and a string of uninspiring listings. CMS Info Systems is trading at a Rs 5 per share grey market premium, implying a flat debut. 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to chair 46th GST Council Meeting at Vigyan Bhawan followed by press conference. The meeting will be attended by MoS for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary & Dr. Bhagwat Karad, Finance Ministers of States & UTs and Senior officers from Govt & States. 

Today, December 31, the 46th GST Council meeting, led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will meet to review, among other things, the report of the panel of state ministers on GST rate rationalisation.  

Covid Update – India records its first Omicron death  

When a 52-year-old man from Maharashtra died of a heart attack in a Pune hospital, he became India’s first Omicron casualty. He had previously travelled to Nigeria and was diabetic. 

In only 24 hours on Thursday, India recorded nearly 13,000 new Covid-19 cases. Since December 26, daily new cases have averaged over 10,000, up from roughly 8,000 last week. The number of Omicron cases in India has surpassed 1,000, with 1,159 instances.

US

 US indices continue to slip after record close on Wednesday 

There was relatively lower news/data driving markets on the second last trading session of the year 

Dow closed 0.25% lower 

S&P500 was down 0.3% 

Nasdaq was marginally lower, down 0.16% 

Despite this, all major US indices are on track to finish both the week and the month higher 

Analysts expect this to continue on Friday as well 

Europe 

European stocks out of the UK rise marginally on the back of holiday thin trade 

Asia 

Asian markets are broadly in the red to start the last day of 2021 

SGX Nifty Futures closed flat with a negative bias yesterday, down 5bps 

SGX Nifty Futures is flat in early trade today, trading with a negative bias
