Eight Permian Basin counties combined to make up nearly 55 percent of the statewide production of oil in September, according to the preliminary reported totals from the Railroad Commission of Texas.

Midland County again led the state with 14.119 million barrels, or 13.51 percent of the 104.455 million barrels produced in September, according to the RRC. Midland and Martin County were Nos. 1 and 2 in the state, accounting for 25.88 percent of all oil produced. The RRC reported 12.96 million barrels were produced in Martin County during the month of September.

The other Permian Basin counties in the top 10 were Howard, Upton, Reeves, Loving, Reagan and Andrews. All eight counties combined for 54.97 percent of the total production.

In terms of natural gas production, two Permian Basin counties finished in the top 3 during the month. Reeves again dominated other counties with 78.44 billion cubic feet of natural gas produced. Midland was third with 49.445 billion cubic feet. Preliminary figures show 750.152 billion cubic feet reported across the state.

In September 2020 the preliminary production of crude oil was 104.32 million barrels. The updated total was 117.54 million. During the same month, the preliminary production of gas was 744.787 billion cubic feet. The updated total was 853.145 billion cubic feet.
