‘Murdered’ student leader’s father fails to identify 2 accused in custody

Anish Khan was allegedly murdered at his residence at Amta, in Howrah district, in the early hours of February 19. His father alleged that four men had visited his house around 12.30 am on the night of the incident and killed his son by throwing him off the roof of the two-storey building.

ECI seizes over ₹1,000 cr in poll states, Punjab tops list with ₹511 cr

  • In Uttar Pradesh, where polls are underway, seizures spiked by ₹114.63 crore from 193.29 crore at the end of 2017 elections to ₹307.92 so far this time. Seizures in Punjab rose by ₹421.27 crore to reach ₹510.91 in this year’s elections as opposed to ₹89.64 in the previous one.
Among the five states where the polling was scheduled this month, elections are over in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa. In Uttar Pradesh, three more phases remain, while in Manipur, two phases of voting will be done on February 28 and March 5.(PTI)

After a delay of over 3 years, Odisha civic polls to be held in March

The polls are overdue in most of the municipalities since December 2018 and in some others from July 2019. The five-year term of 65 civic bodies including the Berhampur Municipal Corporation, expired on September 29, 2018, while the tenure of 48 civic bodies including Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, and Sambalpur municipal corporations expired on February 2019.
