When you think of PC manufacturers, the likes of Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Samsung Lenovo, Apple, and even Microsoft probably spring to mind. When you think of gaming laptops, you those same companies and their gaming subsidiaries are right there again. You are probably not think of LG, but you may be soon thanks to the launch of the LG UltraGear 17G90Q.
Despite not having the market presence of some of its rivals, LG does indeed make laptops and 2-in-1s. However, the company has never before made a gaming laptop. The LG UltraGear 17G90Q changes that.
It is aiming towards the high-end of the market with its eye-catching gaming-level specs. For example, a 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake H processor paired with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q GPU. It has dual-channel RAM (16GB or 32GB) and SSD storage up to 1TB.
Players will see their game on a 17-inch IPS Full HD display that LG says has a 300Hz refresh rate. Those are solid gaming laptop specs and LG is using a vapor chamber cooling system to stop the device overheating. Other specs include a 93W battery despite the laptop only weighing less than 6 pounds and being 0.84-inches thick with an aluminum casing.

In its launch document, LG points to the software it includes to help games:
“The 17G90Q further optimizes the gaming experience via LG’s gaming software, LG UltraGear Studio, which lets users customize gaming-related options and track a variety of performance data – including CPU clock, GPU TDP and clock, and memory share rate – in real-time.”
As for the wider software, Microsoft’s Windows will serve as the OS. LG says the UltraGear will launch fully at CES 2022 and will arrive in South Korea and the United States during Q1 2022.
