Foo Fighters will head to the Metaverse for a virtual reality concert on Super Bowl Sunday.
On Sunday, February 13th, the Los Angeles Rams will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. At 8 p.m. PT or immediately following the game—whichever happens first—Dave Grohl will lead the Foo Fighters into their first-ever VR concert experience. The event will stream live on Facebook and Instagram as well as the Horizon Venues app.
Users who attend via the Meta Quest headset will immerse themselves in a front row, 180-degree VR concert experience complete with customized avatars, fan interaction, and virtual games in the show lobby. The show will see the Foo Fighters deliver a live debut, rarely played tracks, and fan-favorites from a custom-made stage. Mark Romanek will serve as director for the experience. Romanek helmed 2010’s sci-fi romance Never Let Me Go in addition to Beyonce‘s “Sand Castles” and Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off” music videos, among many other director credits.
“Foo Fighters love a challenge — from playing the biggest stages in the world to the tiniest clubs to making movies and miniseries. We’ve pretty much done it all,” said Grohl in a press release. “But we’ve never collaborated with Mark Romanek on a conceptual set of songs (including one being played live for the first time ever) for a worldwide audience, where everyone has the best seats in the house thanks to the most badass VR tech…until now. Join us when we cross that one off the FF bucket list!”
