The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District released on Wednesday COVID-19 data dated Tuesday, including 185 new cases and 13 recoveries.
Of the 185 new cases, 34 were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction tests.
Active cases as of Tuesday total 1,445 (385 PCR cases and 1,060 based on antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 835.
During the last coronavirus surge that started in the late summer, the most new cases reported on one day for Taylor County was 331 on Sept. 1.
Hendrick Health reported Wednesday 62 COVID-19 inpatients, with 10 in ICU. That compares to 50 COVID-19 inpatients on Monday, including nine in ICU.
The breakdown Wednesday by facilities was 51 inpatients at the Abilene hospitals (seven in ICU), and 11 inpatients (three in ICU) at the Brownwood hospital.
Of the 62 Hendrick COVID-19 inpatients, 48 were not fully vaccinated.
The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the 16-county Abilene trauma service area was 7.93% of total capacity Tuesday, compared to 6.94% Monday and 6.48% Sunday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 database.
The Abilene trauma service area Tuesday had 59 COVID-19 inpatients, five more than reported Monday. Eight admissions had been made in the previous 24 hours.

New cases by campus: four students and six staff at Abilene High, one student at ATEMS, 17 students and nine staff at Cooper High, two students and one staff at Woodson, five students and four staff at Clack Middle, five students and six staff at Craig Middle, one student and two staff at Madison Middle, four students and one staff at Alcorta Elementary, two staff at Austin Elementary, three students and two staff at Bassetti Elementary, two students and one staff at Bowie Elementary, three students and three staff at Dyess Elementary, three students and two staff at Martinez Elementary, two staff at Ortiz Elementary, four students and four staff at Purcell Elementary, one staff at Taylor Elementary, one student at Thomas Elementary, two staff at Ward Elementary, one staff at Long Elementary, one student at Crockett, two staff at One AISD, one staff in technology and one staff in transportation.

Wylie ISD: Reported Wednesday 16 new cases (nine students, seven staff members), with 22 active cases, compared to nine active cases Tuesday.
Active cases by campus: one student at East Junior High, three students at East Elementary, two staff members at West Elementary, five students and two staff members at Wylie High, one student and one staff member at West Early Childhood and five students and two staff members at West Junior High.
